Just because you have wisdom teeth does not mean they need to be removed. Also, not every person develops wisdom teeth in the first place. Some of our patients only develop one, two, or three of these third molars at the very back of their mouths, not all four on the upper and lower jaws. Some people may develop fourth molars or additional wisdom teeth and have no problems! So, wisdom tooth removal in Fort Worth, TX at our office, Sycamore Dental, is not a foregone conclusion.
Our dental family has grown several branches over time due to our proactive, non-judgmental, and kind approach. When it comes to wisdom teeth, as with other oral conditions, we will get you or your child on a routine schedule of visiting us for professional cleanings and oral exams. The “standard” visit schedule is once every six months; however, we may want to see you or a family more often. More frequent visits may be recommended to monitor conditions and therapies, such as those interventions to resolve active gum disease. Also, if you are at increased risk of developing conditions such as periodontal disease or oral cancer, additional evaluations may be scheduled.
During the exam part of your visit, Dr. Suri will monitor the development of emerging teeth. Should problems be detected, she will recommend intervention before they produce painful symptoms that disrupt sleep and your day-to-day life.
Generally, the first permanent tooth breaks through the gums at around the age of six. These teeth include the first molars and the front lower teeth (central incisors). Second molars emerge between the ages of 11 to 13 years. On average, the third molars erupt well into the teens or young adulthood between the ages of 17 to 21. This emergence later in life gives these last molars their very fitting nickname, “wisdom teeth.”

Wisdom teeth have a reputation because they are such late bloomers. By the time they emerge, all other teeth should be present. So, there is little room left for these back teeth to develop properly. A wisdom tooth may be either partially or fully impacted, which means it has failed to erupt in the appropriate place. A tooth may become trapped underneath the gums or the gums and the bone. Trapped wisdom teeth produce painful pressure and can damage surrounding teeth. We will monitor these problems so that teeth can be removed proactively and before they create pain and other complications.
For safe and comfortable wisdom tooth removal, without the hassle and expense of an oral surgeon’s specialty center, visit Sycamore Dental. We look forward to meeting you!
